If you’ve ever been to Brooklyn, Iowa, you may have seen our historic, 108-year-old opera house on Jackson Street, a beautiful but neglected property that anchors the central business district downtown. The opera house was once a symbol of Brooklyn’s vitality, where theater, music and community thrived. But with no funding available to rebuild after a catastrophic floor collapse in 1998, Brooklyn has missed out on decades’ worth of arts, music, new traffic and economic activity — until now. With one of our most cherished properties and potentially millions in economic impact at stake, we now have an opportunity to restore the Brooklyn Opera House and anchor the next century of growth for our community.
